problem installing orange-source-snap-2005-10-19.tgz LINUX

hello,
I use linux and python 2.4.2. I think the built went fine, but when I install with the following command :
python setup.py install --orangepath=/data0/local/lib/python2.4/site-packages/

I notice the follwoing :
running build_py
package init file '__init__.py' not found (or not a regular file)
package init file 'OrangeCanvas/__init__.py' not found (or not a regular file)
package init file 'OrangeWidgets/__init__.py' not found (or not a regular file)
package init file 'OrangeWidgets/Associate/__init__.py' not found (or not a regular file)
package init file 'OrangeWidgets/Data/__init__.py' not found (or not a regular file)
package init file 'OrangeWidgets/Other/__init__.py' not found (or not a regular file)
package init file 'OrangeWidgets/Visualize/__init__.py' not found (or not a regular file)
package init file 'OrangeWidgets/Regression/__init__.py' not found (or not a regular file)
package init file 'OrangeWidgets/icons/__init__.py' not found (or not a regular file)
package init file 'OrangeWidgets/Evaluate/__init__.py' not found (or not a regular file)
package init file 'OrangeWidgets/Classify/__init__.py' not found (or not a regular file)
package init file '__init__.py' not found (or not a regular file)
package init file 'OrangeCanvas/__init__.py' not found (or not a regular file)
package init file 'OrangeWidgets/__init__.py' not found (or not a regular file)
package init file 'OrangeWidgets/Associate/__init__.py' not found (or not a regular file)
package init file 'OrangeWidgets/Data/__init__.py' not found (or not a regular file)
package init file 'OrangeWidgets/Other/__init__.py' not found (or not a regular file)
package init file 'OrangeWidgets/Visualize/__init__.py' not found (or not a regular file)
package init file 'OrangeWidgets/Regression/__init__.py' not found (or not a regular file)
package init file 'OrangeWidgets/icons/__init__.py' not found (or not a regular file)
package init file 'OrangeWidgets/Evaluate/__init__.py' not found (or not a regular file)
package init file 'OrangeWidgets/Classify/__init__.py' not found (or not a regular file)

The rest of the install seems to go smoothly.
The command script based exemples all seem to work ok.
The only hint at a serious problem is that
1) liborange.so soft link was *not* created in the target directory, only in the source directory from which the setup.py install is executed
2)
>>> import statc
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "<stdin>", line 1, in ?
ImportError: liborange.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

which as a consequence fails all test exemples importing it.

thanks for your help,
Johann

please disregard 2) : it was stupid: I forgot to point to it with the LD_LIBRARY_PATH.

I am still trying to figure out a script that would allow me to test the widgets, and I still have the ominous __init__ not found messages....

ok, some more... Re-reading the INSTALL.txt, I realized that the GUI is supposed to be launched by executing "orange". This is supposed to be an alias of
python /usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages/orange/OrangeCanvas/orngCanvas.pyw

This alias has not been created.... When I execute the python line above, the GUI shows up, so I think that the widgets are functional, depite the "__init__ not found" messages...
