error with association rules widget

Postby avico510 » Sun May 29, 2011 20:15

I am trying to use the association rules, but I seem to get an error message every time I click on an association tree ( in the association rules explorer) that say the selection has changed.

Take a look at the pic

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I can not duplicate this. The shown rules indicate a problem with loaded attribute descriptors (the #RNGE values in the rules). Are you loading the standard adult(_sample).tab data-set from the documentation? Can you also post which build date of orange you have installed (go to menu Help -> About)

Yes I am using the standard adult_sample tab. Version build is 2.0b, May 12, 2011. I'm going to download the new version and see if that makes a difference

In the selected attribute widget, I loaded Race, Sex and Education. Class = y

I tried doing the same thing with another dataset (iris) without selecting any attributes and I got the same error.

Do i have to change some settings in the "Association Rules" widget

Ok. I got it now. The problem seems to be limited to the algorithm for sparse data. Note however that you probably want to run the non sparse one (The difference is described here http://orange.biolab.si/doc/reference/associationRules.htm).
I will open a ticket to fix the error.

Edit: ticket http://orange.biolab.si/trac/ticket/806

thanks ... i did try with and without the sparse checkbox selected. Neither worked.

I am assuming it is just a problem with the wideget and that if I built and association link directly in Python, I wouldnt have the problem. Is that correct?

I am used to programming in C# and Java. I can understand Python, but the formatting for output is a little different for me
