New installation in Windows 7 will not read scripts

Postby sreastman » Fri Dec 28, 2012 14:42

I tried running the sample script, lenses.py, in the Data Input tutorial and get this message:

>>> python lesnes.py
Traceback ( File "<interactive input>", line 1
python lesnes.py
^
SyntaxError: invalid syntax
>>>

The problem seems to be that I am unable to switch from interactive to normal mode (with the interpreter). What needs to be done?

Thanks--Steve

Steve, I see that you are typing this into a Python interpreter.

You should instead type this into a command prompt (in the old DOS style). Try to run cmd.exe, move to the subfolder with lenses.py file and then type c:\python27\python.exe lenses.py

Thank you so much. That solved the problem.

Steve
