Orange and windows 8

Postby karantan » Sun Nov 24, 2013 19:28

Im running 64bit version of windows 8 and i have some trouble with orange. I tried with python 2.6 and 2.7 but non works.
As far as i could tell PyQt package was installed for 32 bit version and this was the first problem. I installed the 64 bit version but this did not solve the issue (then there was some problem with "from . import orange" "hack" in

anyway my question is does orange work on 64 bit windows?

That should not be a problem as Orange an all the other dependencies in the installer are 32 bit. Never the less they should work on 64 bit windows.

Did you already have 64 bit python installed before running the orange installer?

I had already installed and was successfully using python 2.7.6 (Windows 8 64 bit) before I decided to install Orange.

The installation process forced me to go through installation of python even after I had selected No.

However, now the Orange Canvas doesn't start. When I tried to import orange in python it gave me following error:

c:\python27\lib\site-packages\Orange\ UserWarning: Some features will be disabled due to failing modules

This thread up...
I can not run Orange on my Win 8.1 laptop.
What I have tried:
1. Install Py 2.7 64 bit and hg Orange package - does not work.
2. I have uninstalled all from 1 and delete folder Python27
3. Manually download and install packages, all in 64 bit version (pil, pyQT, PyQwt, setuptools, PythonWin, numPy, sciPy, matplotlib) and at the end - Orange. This also does not work...
4. Manually update PATH to Python27 folder does not work

Thiose are attempts on my "fresh" Win 8.1 system, but I also have trouble with my old installation on Win 8.
Any suggestions??

I can use Python IDLE and VIdle and run scripts.
