How to read comma separated files (is not documented!!)

Postby michaelhecht » Wed Jan 13, 2010 15:45

Maybe this is a stupid question, but how to read comma or arbitrary delimited files. If I use orange.ExampleTable("myfile"), every comma-separated line is read as one value. There is nowhere in the documentation described, how to tell ExampleTable to separad with commas.

Any suggestion?

See the Comma separated files section at http://www.ailab.si/orange/doc/reference/tabdelimited.htm.
You can also write your own read functions (http://www.ailab.si/orange/doc/reference/userformats.htm

Little trick to have it working

See the Comma separated files section at http://www.ailab.si/orange/doc/referenc ... imited.htm.

doesn't show a sufficient description. The hint seems to be to rename the file to *.csv instead of *.txt. Then ExampleTable recognizes the commas!
There seems to be no option like

orange.ExampleTable(myArbitraryFileName,separator=',')
