Simpler orngMySQL

Postby Cerin » Sun Nov 11, 2007 18:17

Hi,

I was excited to learn about orngMySQL. I had been storing my data in MySQL and then parsing it out to TAB files to feed to Orange, so replacing all that with this module would really help streamline things.

However, for my application, my query statement is a call to a stored procedure, and I soon learned orngMySQL works by deducing the domain by extracting table names from the statement and then introspecting the table columns...

Wouldn't it be simpler and more generally applicable to just execute the query and have MySQLdb tell you the column types? It would be convenient if orngMySQL could handle any query statement that returns a record set, not just table selections.

Regards,
Chris

Btw, I've patched orngMySQL.py to work as I've described. Let me know if you're interested in this and I'll upload it.
