autoconf or setup.py

Postby Guest » Thu Jun 30, 2005 23:28

I think an autoconf or setup.py would help the *nix people out alot. (The setup seems to be geared towards Windows users with monolithic libraries ;-)) Reading the posts I see a lot people are not figuring out that they don't have the gsl headers installed. An autoconf would make that a lot more clear. Or if you're already invested in disutils, setup.py would be good too. I think if you get the installation process cleaner the rpm's and debs will follow on their own.

Hi,
setup.py is taking care of this things. It checks for various software installation and report if it is missing. It finds gsl libraries if gsl-config binary is in system path.
