How to install Orange for Python on a Mac

Postby zankbennett » Tue Aug 20, 2013 1:23

Hi,
I'm running an Anaconda-based install of Python on a Mac and I get this error on install. Has anyone successfully installed the Orange Python library on a Mac running Anaconda?

Code: Select all
easy_install orange
gives me this error:

Code: Select all
SystemError: Cannot locate working compiler

Thanks in advance!

You need to install Apple's XCode developer tools (orange needs a working C++ compiler tool-chain) before you can build and install orange from source.

If you want a smaller download and footprint on your hard disk, you can download the XCode command-line tools separately from the whole GUI IDE+documentation. For background info, see here: http://kennethreitz.org/xcode-gcc-and-homebrew/

Or just log in to the developer portal here: https://developer.apple.com/downloads/index.action
