Installation of nightly packed sources fails - alternative?

Postby bkaplan » Mon Oct 14, 2013 8:12

Hi,
I'd like to install orange on an Ubuntu 12.04 (3.2.0-54-generic) 64-bit system with python 2.7.3, but it fails :(
python setup.py build
sudo python setup.py install
gives:
Code: Select all
In [1]: import orange
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
ImportError                               Traceback (most recent call last)
/myhome/Programs/Orange-2.7.2/<ipython-input-1-b3d81ddeaaa5> in <module>()
----> 1 import orange

/usr/local/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/Orange/orng/orange.py in <module>()
----> 1 from Orange.orange import *

/myhome/Programs/Orange-2.7.2/Orange/__init__.py in <module>()
     10
     11 if not os.environ.get('READTHEDOCS', None):
---> 12     from . import orange
     13     # Definitely ugly, but I see no other workaround.
     14     # When, e.g. data.io executes "from orange import ExampleTable"
ImportError: cannot import name orange

Is there a trivial way around this, or did I do sth wrong?

Also, I'd like to suggest to put more recent stable versions into the download archive
http://orange.biolab.si/download/archive/
- I guess it's quite a big jump between orange-2.0-20101215svn.zip 21-Jan-2011 15:39 and the nightly packed one ...

Thanks in advance for any help!

Best regards,
BK

Change the current directory from the Orange-2.7.2 and try again.

Yip, that was the trivial thing I haven't tried.
Thanks a lot!
Still, please provide more stable packages to download, just in case that a nightly packed version is buggy.
Keep up the good work, orange is a great project!
Cheers, B
